Eggnog Latte Recipe

Though not an option at coffee shops year-round, during autumn and into the winter the eggnog latte recipe proves to be a star!

With the change in weather brings the time to break out the holiday goodies, including the:

  • Peppermint Mocha (which you can get any time, but often steals the spotlight around Christmas)
  • Pumpkin Spice Latte (offered in limited quantities, but it ain’t over till it’s over)
  • Eggnog Latte Recipe (which comes and goes in the blink of an eye)

What is an Eggnog Latte? In a nutshell, steamed eggnog with espresso.

Now, for those of you eggnog lovers, understand this… We’re talking about eggnog in a mug. As much of it as you want. Steamed to perfection, and joined together with shots of sweet, dark, espresso-y goodness.

To get started, one must steam the eggnog. Because of the thick nature of the nog and the high fat content, it’s best to mix it with some milk. So really, you can make your indulgence a healthier choice depending on choosing whole, 2%, or skim, but that’s all up to you. Start with two parts eggnog to one part milk, and feel free to adjust from there. Yes, you could try steaming straight-up nog, but don’t do it. The splattering disaster that will inevitable ensue just isn’t worth it. Trust the trained professionals (even they don’t do that).

Be sure to aerate the milk/eggnog mixture plenty before sinking your steam wand all the way into your pitcher. You will create a lot of foam. You will get splashed. But, if you aerate well, at least your milk mixture will screech less. (This one’s a screamer, folks!)

Once your mixture is steamed, pull your shots of espresso. (Do not do that first. Ever. That’s nasty! Letting your shots sit around while you steam your milk will ruin your drink from the start.) Pour your shots of espresso into your mug, and gently add your eggnog. Use the back of a spoon to hold back some of your froth if you want – there’s no harm in that. While you’ll end up with some foam on top of your latte (which is exactly as it should be!), you probably want to make sure you get as much of your eggnog as possible.

So that, in and of itself, will likely be your new holiday obsession. Espresso, with your steamed eggnog (and a little milk). Delectable! But, you can make it even yummier!!!

As with most things in the coffee world, your eggnog latte recipe can be customized to taste. Feel free to top it with whipped cream. With or without the cream, you definitely want to sprinkle some nutmeg or cinnamon on top!

Last but not least, curl up with your favorite book, snuggled under a comfy quilt, and indulge in a second piece of pumpkin pie the way nature intended: with an eggnog latte.
